Writing for a Virtual Tour

My friend Don, a longtime creative collaborator of mine, mentioned that he would like to do a virtual tour for an organization dedicated to conservation and preservation of our wildlife and wild land. I told him that I knew someone who was working for a Wisconsin state natural area and offered to get in touch to see if they would be interested. They were, and we finished the project for them a couple of months ago.

We met with Drew Richmond, development and marketing director for the Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin. We talked for over an hour, gaining information about their objectives, the areas they wanted to highlight and more, and we shared possible options for their tour. We also toured their beautiful interpretive center and boardwalk.

Drew created an outline of points to cover and a date was set for photography. Don’s company, The Post House (Eau Claire, Wisconsin), has been doing virtual tours for quite some time. They have the photography process and image sequencing down to a science.

I worked with Drew's outline and the photos to begin shaping copy. It was an incredibly interesting topic – and process – and fascinating to watch the virtual tour evolve and take shape. And of course, it was a pleasure working on a project for an organization that is making such a difference in land and wildlife conservation and preservation.

Please take some time to check out the virtual tour for The Ridges Sanctuary. And of course, schedule a time to visit in person. It’s well worth the time – and the trip.
