It's been quite a week for the Honor In the Air documentary crew. We were notified that Honor in the Air received an Award of Excellence from the Communicator Awards, operated by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts. There were over 3,000 entries this year from around the world. We're delighted!
This week we also received our first film festival acceptance notification. Yeah! We're very excited to be part of the Red Cedar Film Festival, and are looking forward to showing our film in mid-July, and watching as many others as we can.
Our presentation team, Pamela Alwin Fullerton, Penny Alwin Kleinhans and I, have been busy showing the film to schools, Veteran groups and the general public. Here's a recap of some of our recent showings...
April 9: Pamela and I showed the film to Nicolet College's Learning in Retirement group. We had a great turnout and an even better discussion about Captain Alwin, the Vietnam War, and the toll of combat on Veterans.
April 18: Penny and Pamela showed a segment of the film to, and led a discussion with, about 280 at Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School in central Wisconsin.
April 27: Pamela and I showed the film at the Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary District 8 spring conference at Midstate Technical College in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Attendees graciously included us in their lunch, and one of their members, Sarah, even connected us with the director of Wisconsin Badger Boys, which resulted in scheduling another showing.
May 4: Penny and Pamela showed the film to a packed house at the Hoard Historical Museum in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Over 80 people turned out for the screening and discussion, using every available seat, including an extra rack of chairs, a bench from the hallway, and staff's office chairs. Thanks to all who came out!
May 7: I had a virtual showing for the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point LIFE (Learning is Forever) members. We had a great discussion following the screening. I'm always happy when I get to present something for my alma mater.
In a few days Penny and Pamela will head for Reno to show the film at the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association reunion. We have too many upcoming showings to mention them all here, but you can find them all here.
Thanks for your ongoing interest in Honor In the Air. Let us know if you'd like to schedule a screening for your group. Just fill out the contact form on the home page of www.honorintheair.com to get the conversation started.
